The Greek word sozo means salvation, but the true meaning goes deeper than just the forgiveness of sins. Strong’s Concordance delves into the history of the word which is ‘to save’ indicating that sozo also translates to physical healing and deliverance from your enemy. The word sozo is used over 100 times in the New Testament.
This implies that salvation is more than your acceptance of Jesus’ death on the cross and eternal life granted. It also implies that by receiving sozo you can receive healing and deliverance while you are still on earth. This healing and deliverance could take many different forms, it could be receiving healing for a physical ailment or for mental health, or to be delivered from demonic attacks and oppression. There are many promises listed throughout the Bible and it’s important to understand that as children of God we are able to access them through Jesus.
The depth and true revelation of what Jesus did for us on the cross and the life changing implications of it are something that would take many years to unpack, but just remember these three things when you accept Jesus as your saviour – you are: SAVED | HEALED | DELIVERED
“So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies…”
“He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.”
“My son, give attention to My words; incline your ear to My sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.”
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgement you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.”
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
